The political climate in today’s day and age has brought heightened awareness to the topic of domestic violence. This open dialogue has encouraged many victims to come forward to confront their abusers. Although this trend is a positive development for society, false accusations have become more prevalent as a result.

If a jilted spouse or former relationship partner has falsely accused you of domestic violence, it will be very difficult to convince the authorities of your innocence. Unfortunately, it might even be hard to convince your family and friends. The bond amount for a domestic violence charge can be quite high. For instance, in addition to a monetary bond, you will also likely be subject to a “no contact” order which can include ankle monitoring.

If you are found to be in violation of the court’s no contact order, even if the alleged victim contacted you, you can be held in jail without bond until your case resolves. Overcoming a domestic violence charge is an uphill battle, but remember, you are innocent until proven guilty. The government must present evidence in court to prove a criminal charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
